The firmware file is named "PLDS_1NJ78_A02_ZPE.exe" and has a size of 2.93 MB.
Navigate to the extracted folder and locate the firmware update executable, which should be named "6D5N_WIN.EXE". AND then run the "6D5N_WIN.EXE" file.

Could you please post the Make Model and OS of your Machine.
@ann_droid Thank you very much. I will definitely look at this option. I'll report back once I have a result. Kinda busy. I'll get to it in the near future.
@ann_droid No, I haven't, however, it is another option to consider as I move ahead to resolve. Thanks again. I really appreciate. From what I've read (so far), when the unit is completely functional, it should readily work with all common CD formats as well as DVDs.
@ann_droid Unfortunately, the firmware update exe did not solve the issue, however, I can confirm the ODD writes and reads data CDs just fine. Just wont play an audio CD. So thank you very much. It was worth it to me to try your ideas. Looks like I'll be replacing it. Alright. Heres wishing good stuff to you, from now on.

Re: why my DVD RW is not recognizing any type of CD.
these optical disk drive can degenerate and manifest a myriad of weird issues
