PE 2950 - E1211 ROMB BATT - Sensor Fail Asserted, Deasserted Entries Fill Log -

One of our 2950s ambered with the E1211 ROMB BATT error, but OpenManage displayed no error, other than the log was full of: Storage ROMB Battery: Battery sensor for Storage, failed was deasserted Storage ROMB Battery: Battery sensor for Storage, failed was asserted entries logged every 5-30 seconds and the LCD would amber and return to blue with every assertion/deassertion. We powered it down, powered it up - same error. I powered it down, replaced the PERC battery, but the behavior continued. Replacing the battery fixed the issue in another 1950/2950 that was having the same issues a year or two ago, but not this time. What did fix it was starting the battery learn cycle in OpenManage: System - Storage - PERC 5/i Integrated - Battery Battery Tasks - Start Learn Cycle The logs stopped, the learn cycle started and completed normally. I googled this issue and found a few posts with the same issue, but no solution. Hope this helps someone.
The learning cycle occurs by default every 90 days, but if it is needed more often than that, you have a firmware, riser, or battery problem. The battery, for obvious reasons, could be bad. The riser, as the other side of the connection for the battery, could also be bad. The firmware of the RAID controller is what actually manages the battery state, so it would be highly recommended to update your system firmware (BIOS, ESM/BMC, and RAID) before replacing anything, to be sure it is not just a bug in the firmware.
Thanks for the reply. Checked that, sorry I omitted that info. That was one of the few things that came back during the web search. Always a good idea to stay current on the firmware.
Had the same issue and we pulled the battery out of the server, completely. Once the battery was out we rebooted the server and I sat on the battery to keep it warm. Which did nothing to fix the problem, but it did lower my self-esteem.:emotion-17:
