This seemed to work fine. I just purchased 16GB more ram in the form of 2 x 8GB sticks. I am unable to determine an optimal configuration. What are my options to utilize more than 16GB of ram with the new 8GB sticks (that also doesn't require an F2 on reset)?
As of now I just put the two 8GB sticks in A1/B1 with all the 2GB sticks left out. I feel like my only recourse is to buy 2 more 8GB sticks.

Edit: I should probably add I'm on BIOS 3.0.0....that may also be an issue.
#1 Are both DIMM types the same? You cannot mix UDIMMs and RDIMMs.
#2 Memory is supposed to be installed in pairs, and in dual processor configurations both memory lanes(A, B) must have identical configurations. In a dual CPU configuration you should be installing a minimum of 4 DIMMs. Single DIMM configurations in A1/B1 are not intended for a production environment. That configuration is intended for troubleshooting.
If all of the DIMMs are the same type then your configuration should be:
1,2 - 8GB 4,5 - 2GB
Alternatively you could populate:
1,2,3 - 2GB 4,5 - 8GB
That will give you more memory, but may not perform as well as the first configuration. If the above configurations do not work then post more information about the specifications of the memory.
You may be able to get the memory to work in this configuration:
1,2,3 - 2GB 4 - 8GB
I'm quite certain that you will receive a warning with that configuration, but I'm uncertain if the DIMM would be disabled.
Thank you for the response. All the sticks are UDIMM's. The new 8GB sticks are dual rank and the 2GB sticks are all single rank. I was hoping it would allow me to run with matching channel but mixed size ram sticks. I don't remember if I tried the 1,2,3 - 2GB / 4 - 8GB but I'm going to go ahead and guess it won't be happy.
It'll be simple enough to buy another pair of 8GB sticks. I'm using these: Crucial CT102472BD1339 I might play around with the extra 2GB sticks but I think 1,2 - 8GB by itself is enough of an upgrade for this server.
