    Hi,
I have a new SC420 coming any day now. I was just wondering if you are having a problem with the video? And, how do you like it? Any warnings or suggestions would be appreciated.

The one for Server 2003 thats on the cd should work or you can try the Intel display driver

    Using a x16 video card in a SC420

The only thing is that it is the 8x PCIe and not the 16x, also I can't get the server 2003 driver to work it says I am installing it on the wrong operating system.

I tried that intel driver link. I installed Windows 2000 on my SC420 and I can't get the video driver to install.  When the install routine starts it says:  "The system does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software"  Does anyone know what this means?

You did the slot mod trick for the PCI Express?  It will come up with an error msg if you have the Celeron chip.  Dell has made it difficult, so they could sell their more expensive 8400 with the 16x PCI Express.  Also check the pins to make sure you did not damage them during the modification.

The 8400 is more or less the same computer + the 16x PCI express.  Also try a bios update.

If you are talking about the on board chip, it is on the Dell disk that came with it.

Tried all the drivers on the cd and there was no change...All came back with this is not a supported operating system...Pulled the drivers for W2K from the cd and the website and there was no difference....

I have an SC420 Running the intergrated video and it works well.  Use the WIN2000 Driver for it found on the Dell Driver disk.

It will install without a hitch.  I am using WINXP Pro on it. There has been no problems.

      Try it, it works.

please post and let us know.

For anyone that thinks they will run XP on this platform... FORGET IT...Yes it will run but the integrated video does not support XP and will cause you mega problems.. The video device cannot be disabled without installing a PCI X video card.. Using a PCI card gives you video using XP but you still will have a unknown device in device mgr..

I and many other people use a server box as a workstation and limiting the OS that we can use natively is short sighted...Dell at least needs to put a bios update to allow turning that Piece Of Sheit integrated video device that only supports 2K/2K3/Linux off in the bios so it causes fewer problems..

And there is no onboard sound either and this is a departure from the 400SC platform and there are fewer usb ports on the back of the system...At least Dell had the foresight[?] to allow us access to the front usb ports on the 420SC......Personally I would buy the 400SC in a heartbeat over this thing.. I am going to return this Piece Of Sheit and see if I can get a new 400SC instead...

    I have the 2.53 Celery, 256 Ram, 80 Gig.

I have it at 1024*768 at 75 refresh rate.  I used the Win2000 Drivers and it worked without a hitch.  Did you try the actual RAGE drivers  http://www.ati.com/support/products/pc/ragepro/winxp/rageprowinxpdrivers.html?type=xp&prodType=graphic&prod=productsXPdriver&submit.x=15&submit.y=3

I am trying everything I could think of to help ya. Even try uninstalling and reinstallin the card in device mgr.  Force the win2000 drivers in update drivers.

As for the 1600*1200,  I don't know if it will work.   I have 3 more of these servers coming next week.  I will try it then and let ya know

    Here is my systems config...

    2.8 P4 800mhz fsb

    1 gig ddr2 ram

    80 gig sata hd

    48x cd rom drive

To anyone who has made the 2000 video drivers work for the integrated video..Is your config different from this system? I would LOVE to use the integrated vido as not having a configured native video device causes me all sorts of problems with certain apps I need to run on this box...

Also, when you have the integrated video configured what is the resolution range? Does the res go down to 640x480 and up to at least 1280x1024? Reason I ask is that the Rage pci card I used in the box does that range and actually will go 1600x1200 and has to be forced to go to 640x480...I have some apps that need that low end res...

    Thanks...
