using an IDE with a sata drive

I have a Poweredge sc430 with an 80 gig SATA drive as primary boot. The system also
has an IDE CD-RW which is set to Cable select and both units worke fine.

My problem is that I can not figure how to install an IDE HD on the same cable as the CD-RW. I have tried all the combinations that I can think of without managing to susceed. If I get my system to see the HD it will not see the CD-RW and vice versa.

Is it possible to use an IDE HD, CR-RW and SATA drives all together?

Some Cd and HD are just not compatible.

You did not say what kind of CD drive you have, the CD in the last 3 year are mostly ATA style and this might be your problem. Try a ATA HD with that CD and see what happens, IDE is the older of the three types.

In general, it is not good idea to have hard-drive and CD-ROM on same IDE channel. Anyway, IDE hard-drive has to be master, CD-ROM - slave - check jumper setting, then go to BIOS configuration and make sure both IDE devices doesn't set to disabled.
