ERROR replacing HDDs .... Storage array contains a RAID controller that has not been added

I had two PE 6850 servers running Windows server 2003  x32 connected to a MD3000 storage using redundant paths. The disks in the storage were 73 GB SAS and all was working just fine. Since it was necessary to enhance software and hardware I'm moving to windows server x64 and use 146 GB SAS HDDs... so I backed up the contents of the storage, replaced the old disks for new disks and reinstalled the OS on both host servers. I thought it was as easy as installing MD3000 drivers and software on both nodes and connect to the storage array and download the firmware for the new disks... but now I can't establish in-band connections to the storage and outband connections reports two storages each one with one controller (0 and 1) and reporting that storage arrays contain a RAID controller that has not been added.... I'm wondering if there is a method of resetting the configuration of the storage as sometime ago I did the same operation to a new unconfigured storage and all went fine...

Any advice will be highly appreciated

Thanks in advance,

Felix

Unless you changed the cabling between the servers and MD3000 (each server with a SAS cable to both controllers (this does assume your MD3000 has 2 SAS in-ports per controller)), the only thing that comes to mind is the CD you used. You mentioned you upgraded to Windows server x64, but not which version. If it's 2003, the same CD you used to install initially should work fine, however, if you upgraded to 2008 or 2008 R2 (x64), you'll want to be sure that the CD you used supports those OSes. If you're not sure, download the latest resource CD for the MD3000 from support.dell.com and install the software from that.

I was upgrading to Win 2003 x64 and I did not changed the cabling... anyway, I have found a solution.... placed two of the old 36 GB HDDs into the storage and both nodes recognized the storage correctly... then downloaded the firmware for the new (13 HDDs) placed disks and after that removed the two old 36 GB and the connection remained fine to both nodes... then placed the remanent two new HDDS and applied the firmware... and that's all... thanks a lot anyway...
