1600n and Network scanning

I am unable to scan with my printer.  when I try to scan from my PC, I get a Port is Disabled error.  PaperPort, Acrobat, and Photoshop all produce the same error.  I can print fine.  The three softwares all see it as a scanner, the dell network scan manager sees it and says it's functioning normally.

I am unable to scan from the printer panel either. It wants a user ID, and no matter what I put in, it comes back with "list is empty" error.  I can not find anything anywhere about any scan list.  Is this another phantom?

PaperPort suggested that the scanner drivers are not installed.  If that were the case, how could the above mentioned software see it as a scanner?

I followed the instructions I found in Dell tech support for getting my printer to scan over the network, and that failed miserably.  After downloading the suggested packages, I ran them.  The installer crashed 5 seconds after launch citing a missing file. The printer driver removed everything I had installed, and replaced everything.  The LCD on the printer displayed Program Update please wait,  for 6 hours until I finally shut it off.  The instruction went on to tell me to run software that did not exist, clicking buttons that did not exist, on screens that did not exist.  For a moment, there I thought I was on a Microsoft site.

I checked the printer under maintenance, and network scan is enabled.

I'm starting to think I have a broken printer.  I hope not, it's only 4 month old.

Thanks,

Jim.

Make sure you have DNSCST allowed access thru the firewall.  When you press the scan button the list of network computers will show up.  Select one of them then hit the scan button again.  It might help to put all "0000" for the PIN number then you wont be asked a pin number.

Verify the following at each system that has the network scan software installed

If the missing file was "isrt.dll" then locate the software that failed to install and perform a manual install.  For example, I got the following error

I then located the "network scan" part of the install at

    C:\dell\drivers\R243545\Dell1600n_Driver_ONLY_Win7(64bits)_090926\1600n\NetScan

and ran setup to finish the network scan install that had failed.

You may have to delete all the files in the temp directory (shown in pic above)  if the install fails a 2nd time.

    cd AppData
    cd Local
    rmdir /s Temp

    YMMV.
