This is exactly what happened with my 1700n. I did a completely clear up, but still did not work out.

My 1700n still looks like new. I really do not want put it in the trash can.

Anyone give us some suggestion or the location of the input paper jam sensor?

We have 17 of these in my company 1700/1710, .  I really hate the USB ones...but Dell gives it to us so we use them.

 

Those with print server, login into the web interface.  Go to Printer Settings, then select Paper Menu and then click on Paper size selection under the Paper Source drop down.  If the user will always have letter in tray 1, you can manually set those trays to the paper size.   Sometimes people here use Legal in tray 1 and in the web interface it's set as Letter, changing that to the correct paper size fixes that problem 100% of the time so far.

 

Now with the USB only printers i have yet to get it to not jam printing Legal and the times I did, I don't even want to touch them cause everytime I upgrade a computer for someone the problem comes back.  This happens most of the time when have have the 2nd tray attached.

 

Only printing to Legal size paper has that problem on USB ones cause I can't set it properly, but if you have one tray, you should be able to set it in Printer Settings under Windows.

 

I just had one today bite the dust...probably jammed too many times!

I have a home 1700 printer that suddenly stopped feeding the paper and gives me a "load paper" signal. It happened so suddenly that I believe its electrical. It clicks a few times and then stops leaving the paper kind of curled slightly but that's all. Suspect either a paper level sensor malfunction or a solenoid failure. I discovered that the black arm does not want to drop down. The rubber wheels will turn but that's all. Single sheet feed works fine. I am hoping someone with more technical insight will find my solution. Mine is not software related.

I have the same problem. My 1700 suddenly stopped feeding paper two days ago. It appears that the black arm is not dropping down to the paper stack. I think a solenoid engages it, running off the white gears on the side. I think the solenoids failed.

Any luck on your end?

This is really headache. I havn't got any solution for my 1700n, so I have put the printer in the storage for a long time.

Also, I read your description, it is a different problem. Mine does pick up the paper from the tray, foists it in, but after this show an error message says: Paper Jam, then stop working. I checked everything, didn't have any paper jam. That's why I said probably the jam sensor went to bad.

Anyway, hope someone can figure it out.
