A940 All-in-one printer - I think I'm missing software
Someone gave me a used A940 all-in-one printer because he bought it and never used it. I have the owner's manual but don't have a CD. It prints and copies great. I simply plugged the printer in and connected it to a USB port on my computer and was instantly able to print. I didn't insall any drivers.
I now want to try to scan. The manual says to open the Dell All-In-One Center and says this could be found at:
I have the path "Start - Programs - Dell Printers - Dell AIO Printer A940" but there is no Dell All-In-One Center in that folder.
I tried downloading a driver yesterday but it didn't do anything. I'm thinking I need more than just a driver.
So here's my QUESTION: Is there somewhere I can get the software for that program besides a CD? It was very generous for someone to give me a printer, I don't want to ask him to search for a CD. Usually this kind of thing is available on the internet.
I've read the thread discussing patches and other issues for the A940 but those discussions all talked about fixing problems with the printer. I don't have any printing problems.
P.S. - I don't have a Dell computer and I'm using Windows Vista if this helps at all.
The Dell All-In-One Center is in the drivers package.

I can walk you through the process but you still will not be able to scan without an OCR Program. Because of royalties, the OCR Program is on the printer disk.
You could try using Simple OCR, it should work nicely with this printer
Thanks for the tip. I downloaded one of the free OCR's from that website and it works great. It even scanned a photo. Although the photo transferred to the computer in black and white, it was quite clear. Even handwritten documents are crystal clear. Thank you so much. That was really easy.
If you'd like to scan the photos in color, we could try instaling the drivers, including the Dell All-In-One Center. You'll still need to use the other program to scan the document.
