A940 - HELP PLEASE -

My A940 is feeding the paper crooked.  Then jamming.  Does it EVERY TIME.  I have tried everything I can think of - even reread my manual.  Nothing has helped.  This seems like a very petty problem, but I am about to pull my hair out.  Has anyone had this problem?  If so, what did you do?  Really need the printer YESTERDAY.  Any advice will be GREATLY appreciated.

I have had that problem now for some time, and also have done all that I could do to try and fix it (email customer service/forum help as they suggested).   I have read enough to know that these A940's all have that defect and I feel that we should be able to get them turned back in for either a 100% refund, or an upgrade.  It makes no sense for a printer to shut down/break down on you in less than 6 months after purchasing it.  Hopefully I can get this taken care of with Dell tomorrow.  I too need my printer fixed.  I've been busy with school and I've had to use the college printers instead of my own.  The paper jam message makes no sense at all, and the sideways feeding and jamming enroute....makes no doggone sense.

I hate to say it like this, but if you raise enough heck with dell they will grant you an upgrade. Ask to speak with a supervisor and don't take no for an answer. My friend owns the A960 and it is a verynice machine.

Thanks for letting me know about your friend!  I went ahead and emailed Dell about my printer once again on Monday the 2nd of February, and lets just say that the ball actually rolled and I got a replacement printer delivered to my house this afternoon.  If this one gives me problems before April 2nd (warranty is up), I will definitely take your advice about what your friend did and ask for the A960!  Thanks for your post...I definitely appreciate it!! :)

Thanks for the help!!!!  Dell is sending another 940 replacement.  But from reading other threads about this printer, it sounds as if Dell has a BIG problem with this printer.  If the replacement goes haywire - I will demand an upgrade, thanks to your input.  Some of the other threads say it was a batch of these printers doing the same thing.  Something really should have been done before now.  But I will give Dell a hand, they have been on the top of things, they have responded quickly to my complaints.  I guess we'll just see how things ago.  Good luck to you all and happy computering!!!

Hello and Happy Computering to you too!  It's great that you too are getting a replacement sent out to you.  Just to let you know though, the replacement came back "Naked" so to speak, but the email instructions were to make sure to send the malfunctioning printer back with all the components.  I emailed them and called them and told them that it wouldn't be right to send all that back.....because I paid for them?!? You know what I mean?  So...they said just to send back the body with nothing (no cords, no cartridges, no manual, no disk).  Hope that helps you ou too.  But, just in case...give them a call if you come across the same situation.  Just for record-keeping purposes, ya know? :)  Oh...also, please do post again if your replacement printer somehow goes haywire too.  If mine does, you better believe I am going to ask for an upgrade! :)  Thanks for posting your situation with Dell!! :)  It does help to know that someone else is going through the same process as I am!

    Hello BobnDoug :)

Yeah...it took a little bit of action to get a new printer and yes, these A940's aren't all that they should be.  I mean...mine worked for a good 6 months and then Bam!  It just didn't want to print anymore, and when I purchased a new cartridge (black ink) that didn't even want to take in correctly.??!??  The printer still displayed the message that the black ink was low.  So....I do hope you don't come across the same problems that many of us have.  But if you do, atleast you know what can be done about it, and what to expect.  I think now though...dell is working harder to make their customers happy.  Just don't let the problem go on too long, or let them stretch out the repair/customer help procedures and let your warranty run out on you if it does happen near that time-frame.   Good luck to you and your A940!! :)

    1) Determine what kind of paper feed issue is occuring.

Choose what type of paper feed issue is occuring from the following
    list:

Paper Jam - Paper continues to get stuck in the printer.
Paper Skew - Paper feeds at an angle through printer.
Multiple sheets pulled - Printer pulls several sheets of paper
    at once.

    2) Verify optimal amount of paper in the tray.

Although each printer tray has a maximum capacity rating, this
rating is based on a specified paper weight/thickness. Consequently,
situations may arise in which the tray will not be able to accommodate
the maximum number of sheets listed in the printer specifications.
Verify that the paper is not packed too tightly in the paper
    tray.

NOTE: Many paper trays have a "max fill" line to indicate the
maximum amount of paper that should be loaded at any given time.

    3) Adjust the paper guide to the correct position. - A940

    4) Locate and remove any obstructions inside the printer and
    input tray. - A920/A940/A960/J740

To locate and remove obstructions from within the printer perform
    the following steps:

Open the front cover and make sure the kickstand is engaged.
Locate and remove any obstructions within the printer such as
    paper pieces, staples, tape, etc.
    Close the cover.
Remove all paper from the input tray.
Inspect the input tray for any obstructions.
    Replace the paper.

    5) Try a different type of paper.

Many image quality and paper feed issues are caused by the type
of paper being used. Try a different type of paper that is specifically
    made for this printer.

I hope this will resolve your issue.

After you have tried all of this, then try contacting Technical Support and arrange for a new printer to be send out under warranty. If its not under warranty you may be out of luck .
