Cannot Scan

I have a Dell 926 All in one printer scanner fax machine.  I can fax and print successfully but cannot get it to scan.  I was wondering if anyone could help.  It says it is downloading applications and then says it cannot download applications

    Greetings,

I have the exact same set up and problem here. Also, no AIO Center software installed with the printer, and can't seem to find it online to download.

    Cheers,

Just installed my Dell 946 AIO printer along with the Dell 3300 wireless printer adapter. Had the exact same problem with my base computer. I was able to print and copy, but could not scan. My laptop worked fine. Here is what I found to solve the problem. The wireless printer adapter was obviously working fine. Hence, I did not touch it. What I did do was to uninstall the printer from the base computer. Did a restart of the base computer. Turned off all running programs, weatherbug, southwest ding, and most importantly shut off Norton Internet Security and Virus protection. When I did the intial install, I did not do this. Perhaps I should have but the Dell installation instructions did not indicate. My base computer is a five year old Dell Dimension 8200. Once I reinstalled the utility driver for the 946, all is now working just fine. I should note that there were some errors on the first installation that I simply ignorned. In hind sight, I could have saved time and effort by simply NOT ignoring the error and have restarted the installation.

My advice is to uninstall the printer application and reinstall and try again. Hope this helps.

    Hello,

Yep, I think I too remember getting a couple of errors during install.

Anyway, I reinstalled the software and all is well. Was going to do that earlier, but didn't as I was a bit worried about keeping the wireless connection.

I am a bit embarrassed, it is like paying Microsoft the big 24/7 help bucks for being told to reboot. :-/

    Thanks a lot.

    Cheers,

    Carl:

Glad to hear it worked for you the second time. I too was worried about losing the wirless connection for the printer. However, durning the install process and per the literature I received from Dell for the printer, once the wireless was set up first (before the installation of the printer drivers). As such, there was no way that reinstalling the printer drivers would mess with the wireless set up of printer adapter. I still think my problem was having Norton running and other small programs. I feel like a because since the PC has arrived, it is basic knowledge to turn off everything, except the computer, while installing new software especially printer drivers.

    Cheers!

On the topic of scanning problems, I have one. I have an A920 All-in-one, and every time I press the scan button a window pops up with this message:

AIO exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Can anyone help me? The exact same thing happens when I try to make copies.

I am currently unable to scan; any attempt to do so just brings up the "Scan was not successful" window. The connection is apparently working; I can check the amount of ink in the printer (I'm out of black). Are there any known issues about the scanner failing because of a lack of ink?

This is happening to me as well.  I've reinstalled the printer and driver.  Have you gotten your problem resolved?

    Dear All,
It is very sad when one spends so much of $$ and still have problems eh!
I purchased a XPS 410 Dimension with Windows Vista and a Dell 946 AIO. Same problem, its printing, fax, copy.......but NO SCAN!!!....I am losing it! Also my Genius VideoCam Look (webcam) is not working with Vista. Vista is sooooooo cool, but so messed up in other ways.
Has anyone been able to resolve their problems? Please let me know.
