I bought a Dell Laser Printer model 3130cn some months ago, installed everything as I usually do, and it works perfectly. Then I pack up my desktop equipment (including the printer) because I am moving to a new apartment.
I unpack the equipment after moving, but now (for some odd reason) the printer won't "connect" to my PC.
Nothing have changed. All that was done with the unplugging and re-plugging of cables.
These things works:
1) Power is on. Cables work, power socket works fine. Printer says "Ready to print" on the display.
2) I am using a USB cable that looks like this: http://driver-pro.com/static/images/article-content/usb-printer-installation-tutorial/usb-printer-cable.jpg. This cable is black and came from Dell with the printer. Should not be the issue. I have tried connecting the PC end of the cable to almost all of the empty USB ports on my PC. It didn't resolve the issue, though.
3) The printer software that came with the printer has been installed.
4) Checking with the Device Manager (Devices and Printers tab in Win7), the printer is found if searching is done. Printer has no troubleshooting issues (the yellow exclamation mark that alerts an existing problem).
5) If I try to print a Test Page, the document window says "Error - Printing" under the Status tab.
6) If I click on the "Tool Box" icon in the Quick Launch Utility software, it comes with a message that says "Supported printers are not installed on this system."
PS: My OS is Windows 7 64-bit.
Does anyone have ANY idea, whatsoever, as to what could be wrong here?
Try reinstalling the printer driver. Disconnect the printer from the PC. Remove the current printer driver from Add/Remove Programs. Load the printer driver

I am on a conference in Holland at the moment, and will be in Canada on a business trip for two weeks after that, and then back in Holland for another week. So I'll be back home (in Denmark) in the beginning of february, and will take a look at the problem when I am home and finally have some time on my hands.
This message is just for your information, as you so requested in your last reply in red letters, Chris.
Thank you for your time, I will respond to your solutions once I have tested your proposals.
4) Installed several software programs (Open Printer Driver, Driver, etc.)
5) Rebooted PC
6) Nothing changed.
By the way, the update driver you referred to tells me that "there are no drivers that needs to be updated".
Also, the Firmware updater executes fine but is not able to find any printers on my network.
I have tried installing just about every piece of driver and software I could find in the "Drivers & Downloads" section on Dell's support webpages, and although the printer seemed to be installed, there is still no "connection" between the printer and my PC.
It "feels" as if the USB connection might be the cause, but then the PC would never have found the Dell Printer at any time by using the "Start - Devices and Printers" tab button in the Windows 7 OS.
So that can't be the issue.
I am running out of ideas. :/
PS: Could you perhaps give me one (or more) direct links to the ONLY software that is absolutely minimum requirement to install and run the printer (I suspect that would be the standalone printer driver itself)?
