Are you using Dell Series 5 ink cartridges?

Try Cleaning Dell ink cartridges

Unplug the printer from the wall. Now remove the power brick from the back of the printer for 60 seconds. Plug everything back in. This will reset any error messages the printer has.

Power on the printer. Open the printer and take out the Dell Series 5 Black cartridge. make sure all the tape is off the cartridge and put the cartridge back in. Now do the same for the Dell Series 5 color cartridge.

Close the printer. It should print an alignment page. Any error messages?

Black cartridge = black side(left side)          color cartridge = color side(right side)

Photo cartridge = black side(left side)         color cartridge = color side(right side)

Dell Series 5 ink cartridges have a sensor in them that cannot be reset. Article on refilling Dell ink cartridges.



Dell Series 5 ink cartridges can be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's Website.

It is also possible to get a new ink cartridge with a bad sensor. Please take it to the place of purchase for a refund or a replacement one.

I am using Dell Series 5 cartridges ordered from the Dell website.

Did everything you suggested, cleaning the cartridges, unplugged from wall, removed the power brick,. Did not get an alignment page but the other times I've followed the troubleshooting steps the alignment page printed. Also previously cleaned the nozz;les twice as described in the troubleshooting steps. About a six year old printer that may need to be replaced but rigiht before this problem started I order ink and don't want it to go to waste. Any other suggestions about fixing this problem or replacing this printer? Thanks for your help.

Does this happen when you copy a document under the glass? B&W and color?

Does this happen when you print something from your computer?

The printhead is attache to the nozzles, so they either work or they don't. Do you know how old the cartridges are? Is the printer near a drafty area, like near an air duct or doorway?

It happens when copying or printing something (emails, docs, etc) from the computer. The color seems to print ok it's just the black text. Cartridges are new.  The printer has been in the same place since I've had it and the problem just started. I scanned an example into a jpg file but can't figure out how to attach it to this post.
