You may be better off using Winzip which your intended recepients are more likely to have .

If they don't have MS Word they could always use the MS Word viewer after they have unzipped the file

When you right click on the file and select "Send To" and the "Compressed (zipped) folder", it will create the same file that WinZip will create without having to purchase WinZip.  If you are only going to zip a file or two, then this is the way to go.  I do a lot of zipping and I use WinZip quite often because of the features it has.

I send photo's and Word documents more often than I realize I think.  I want to compress these files as much as possible and still retain the resolution of what I'm sending.

I gather Winzip is a program I need to purchase?

As an example:

I have a one page Word Document that is 5 mb in size, by compressing with the Windows XP Home as found in the drop down send to compressed folder way just how much is this file being compressed? Doing it this way sends it to a folder first not directly to the mail recipient? Once in the compressed folder do I then email it as send to mail recipient?

In Winzip is this action done differently and would it be compressed differently?

This is probably a dumb question because I should know the answer to it but I don't. How do I get Winzip or do I already have it. I do see the compressed folder option in the send to drop down, is this it? or is there something else I need to do to get it.
