Is there anyone else as frustrated as I am with the technical support that Dell gives to its customers? What I am sure is a simple problem can not be fixed unless I pay Dell to help me with the problem. (So much for paying for "extended technical support".) Microsoft won't help because Dell installed the software. Catch-22.
I've listed my problem here before, but here I go again. Office 2003 Small Business (Publisher and Word) freeze and will not let me paste text I have copied from a website whenever I'm connected to Internet Explorer. I've tried everything the MVP's have suggested...Detect/Repair...Delete Cookies...nothing is working. Anyone out there that can offer help ... I would be most grateful.
If you posted this problem previously, how come it says this is your first post? You change your identity..? ;)
Can you paste that same text into some other app (eg, notepad, wordpad)? Sure it's not a problem with Windows clipboard? You might want to uninstall/reinstall the XP clipboard reader. Have you run the XP system file checker?

Whenever you post a problem and you run into dead ends and no one else responds, you start at square one. (You didn't answer the first post, did you?:smileywink:) Thanks for the advice now though.
I finally just went to system restore (had to figure that out on my own) and went back to January 2 before I had installed a Windows update and an Office Service Pak. Evidently there was something in those updates that were causing the problems. Probably the Office Service Pak. I had installed it previously and ran into difficulties...uninstalled my Office program then reinstalled the program, but left the update off. Things went smoothly for a while, then I thought perhaps Microsoft had changed some things and thought it was safe to reinstall their Service Pak again. Problems again. So I'm leaving the Pak off until I can get some work done.
Appreciate your approval, Ron. I've not been involved with forums that much, so I'm still green on the ins and outs. And as far as I know, my identity didn't change...I've been "bogged" all along! lol
Well, whatever...I'm through with this nonsense. (Well, until the next problem rears its ugly head.) The evil twin theory sounds possible. Good day to you.
According to the "boggled Tracker",
(http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/view_profile?user.id=5780241)
you registered on 01-07-2006 and you've only posted 3 times on the Dell forums, all in this thread. Your OP says you listed the problem here before. So either they're confused, you changed your name to protect the (
fill in the blank), or your evil twin posted the problem previously.
I am also having the problem, where microsoft installed an update to office and said Dell/ the vendor would have to fix the problem it caused. Dell refers you to microsoft or offers their fee-based support. Can anyone explain why the 2 brands I went with to be safe just point to each other?
Anyway, now, I am still under warranty and need new Installation CD's to get Office running again. But I can't ask anyone at Dell about this, because they answer every question with an offer for fee based support. Not what I thought I was getting when I went for the 4 year warranty.
You should have received the Office CD with the PC, assuming you purchased Office from Dell. Send Dell an email, including your Service Tag number, and explain that you need the CD to reinstall Office, that you purchased Office from Dell (assuming you did), and they should have been supplied a CD with the PC. If you didn't order XP and driver CDs from Dell when you ordered the PC, you can ask for those too, but you may have to pay for them.
If Dell installed Windows and/or Office, Microsoft won't give you any support. Dell's free software support is only for first 30 days. After that, you have to pay for software support. If you read your 4-yr warranty, it probably says 'hardware only'.
It's always easier to point a finger than to help... :(
thanks. My problem is being resolved by Dell. I believe that it actually should have been resolved by microsoft, since the errors were caused by an update from their site. I had to go through a lot to get Microsoft to acknowledge that they give support for their updates. Someone is supposed to contact me from MS with help, but that hasn't happened yet. In the meantime, Dell is sending the Office CD's so that I have them.
