I don't have office 2K3 installed on my machine, but if it's like office xp, click on Start, All programs, Microsoft Office Tools, Activate product.

Also, I think the first time you launch a program, it lets you know that it has a limit on the number of times you can use the product before registration becomes a requirement.

If you have activated your product, then you are registered.

Activation and registration are separate processes. Activation is mandatory, registring with Microsoft is optional, I think that most people probably don't bother, especially if it is an OEM copy of Office, as MS in that case MS just refer you back to the supplier for support.

Thanks for pointing that out JRosenfeld, good catch.  I had meant to say if during the activation process they had filled out the personal information form (which is optional) that then they would be registered.

My Office 2003 is not an OEM product. I purchased it separately and want the 1 year of support that comes with Microsoft products.

Activating is not the same as registering, according to the manual that came with my Office 2003:

"Activation is require; registration is optional. Microsoft asks that you activate your product to verify that your installation is performed with a genuine Microsoft product. Product activation is an anti-piracy technology that is desgned to verify that the product is legitimately licensed. When you activate your product, no personal information is sent to Microsoft."

All very nice. But nowhere that I can find are there instructions on how to register.

Do the people who write these manual ever read them?
