I've been a Mac user since 1995 and am having difficulties navigating the Windows 8.1 world.
I installed or thought I installed Outlook mail on my new Dell Windows 8.1 computer. I needed to use Outlook so I could continue to use my long-time POP mail account. I actually saw mail in a window. But once I left, I couldn't figure out how to find or open Outlook. I wanted to place an alias on my desktop but can't find the Outlook program.
Unfortunately, Windows 8.1 does not include outlook. You can click the link below for more information on outlook if you choose to install it in Windows 8.1.
The link you offered took me to a Google search page. There I found that Outlook is sold by Microsoft for $119. The other option seems to be a Microsoft "cloud-based" version at no cost.
Does my understanding of the situation match yours?
The free Outlook is Outook.com which is really Hotmail renamed for the Mail App--very confusing. Office Outlook is not related. You can use the free Thunderbird from Mozilla instead for your POP mail but it will not open your pst file although it can import info from Office Outlook and works very well. That is used on the Desktop, not in the Mail App. The Mail App does not handle POP mail very well. It can receive it but not send it.
