Hello, I have several Dell PowerEdge R640 platforms in our department, but non of them contain Trusted Platform Module installed: System Configuration for PowerEdge R640 Service Tag: : 461-AADZ : No Trusted Platform Module The question is: Can TPM 2.0 module be purchased and installed separately? And what is the Dell Part # for that? I understand that the TPM is bound to the system board upon install and cannot be replaced, but can I do this for the clean/new system? Thanks!
Traditionally, TPMs have not been something you can add after order. However, that 's changed now and there is a TPM installation kit available from Sales. The SKU I see for that is 461-AAEN.
The sales listing I'm looking at shows it as compatible. I'd share the page, but it's internal. Looking at the tech support side, I see part number 1MW70, which is non-orderable. However, that part is included in the kit J0KPW, which would be the SKU I linked to.
Everything I am looking at indicates that it should be compatible.
Thank you for the quick confirmation! I've created the Purchase Request for one kit to check compatibility with our software. Look forward to checking it out.
I'd love to hear how it all goes. This is the first generation that I'm aware of where adding a TPM after the fact was an option. I'm curious on how smoothly things go along.
I'd have to get the DPN to check, not the SKU. Sales uses SKUs, support uses DPNs. If you can locate the Dell Part Number, I can certainly check. If not though, I'd have to refer you to Sales for assistance with the SKU.
