CD burner problem.

I have a Dimension 2350 with a Samsung CD/R/RW SW248F drive that has been giving an error message when it coms time to "finalize" the CD. It says something like "there was an error writing files to the disk". Up until that point, it seem like it works the way it should. I downloaded the firmware update from the Dell website, doesn't seem to help.
It seems to have this problem whether we use Roxio, or other programs to burn CDs.

    Hi Guitarman,

I am assuming you also tried a differnt brand of media as well?
Verify that the drive is running in DMA mode and not PIO mode, please click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 15, articles 14 & 17.

    Best Regards

    Hi. Thanks for the reply.
When I go to secondary channel IDE properties,  Device 0 says transfer mode DMA if available, current transfer mode, ultra DMA mode 2. device 1 says transfer mode DMA if available, current transfer mode, PIO mode. I can't see how to change that part where it  says PIO mode. Should there be a way to change it?
    Thanks
EDIT: I got it working. Under services IMAPI CD burning COM service was set to manual, instead of automatic.

Thanks. The thing now is, I wonder how it could have gotten that way. It was working, I don't know how it could have gotten changed by itself.

    Hi Guitarman,

If Windows detect or "thinks" it detects a problem with the drive or reading a disc it can on its own drop the device in PIO mode, why, wish I knew !!

    Best Regards!
