Driver Error

Hi all,

Don't know if I'm in the right place or not.  But last night when I powered up my laptop I got the following error:

\systemroot\system32\drivers\windrvr.sys

error oxcoooo12f

Can any one help me with this.

I looked on the cd and can't seem to find this driver.

thanks

    Hi Corey,

Thanks for responding.  This happens each time I reboot.  Not sure what happened.  I only use this computer a couple times a week.  I shut it down on Tuesday, and this is the error message I got when I tried powering up.

    SLeftout,

Thank you for using Dell's Community Forum.

Does this error happen each time you boot, or did it only happen once?

You neglected to say what OS you are using. Are you sure you copied the final file name correctly? I have a PC running both W98SE and W2k, both have a System File in System 32 called wmidrv.sys. and that is the only thing that comes close to what you reported.

If you have a W2k CD, you can rerun it and it has a Repair Option part way through the setup. You can also press F8 when the W2000 Action Bar is
on-screen amd select Last Known Good Configuration. See if you can get one or the other to put back the missing file. It may be possible that some other software is the source of the missing file, and if so, you may have an unsolvable problem. Will your Laptop still boot up to windows or are you somewhere in limbo in the "black screens"?

    Hi leduck30,

Thanks, but now the computer will not boot up at all, only in safe mode.  I can't use the up/down arrow keys, they will not work.

Is their a disk that I can reformat the computer back to the way it was when I received it.  It is only about 2 months old.

Sorry to sound so stupid, I am not very computer literate.

A W98 Boot Disk/Startup Floppy. If you don't have one, you can make one on any computer running W98 by going to Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs and click th tab at the top of that window. If that is not feasible, get one here for a small donation   http://www.bootdisk.com
