DVD Burning Performance

i own an Dell Inspiron 1520  Notebook. The original OS is Windows Vista Business Edition. I am facing the DVD Burning Performance issue, previously i burn one DVD about 4.2GB data, it only use about 20 - 25 minute to complete the process.

After i downgrade the Operating System, the burning process is taking time about 1 hour to complete the burning process about 3.xGB of data and the notebook temp become abnormal high. Do i miss out steps during the system downgrade? Please help to solve the problem ASAP.

Check that the drive is in DMA mode and not PIO mode.

Start | Control Panel | System in classic view | Hardware tab | Device Manager

Click on the (+) next to IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.  Right-click the channel for the
drive and select Properties.  Click the Advanced Settings tab.

The Transfer Mode should be DMA if available and below that, Current Transfer Mode
should be Ultra mode DMA 2.

    Hi,

the configuration have been change as what you advise. but another problem hit when i do the weekly reboot. When i reboot, after the dell logo, it stop at another dell warning screen (White in background) mention that, after complete load into windows, the DVD Burner Drive is missing.

The Device in the system modular bay cannot be identified. it may not be completely inserted or may have some other problem. Please read and complete following step in order:

    1. Press the device  completely and firmly into the bay.

    2. Power off the system.

    3. Press the power button to retry detecting the device.

Press ESC to ignore error amd continue.

I have try all the step, and reboot for several time, but the result is still the same, DVD Burner Drive missing from the windows.

Actually what is the problem with my DVD Burner Drive? drive mal-function?

Please help to resolve the problem ASAP, because i need to use the DVD Drive urgently.....

    thanks.

I think the message is indicating a poor contact or no connection to the drive.
Physically remove the drive, check the contacts and connections, then reinstall
it in an effort to improve the connections.
