If you posted this before I assume someone said to put your Operating System Disk in the CD-ROM drive and reboot. Choose New Instilation.

Yes, but when I tried that, the computer did not recognize the disk.

Can you post what system you have? Do you have just one CD drive or more than one?

Sounds like a bad disk. Can you put it in another machine just to see if it can be detected?

Put the disk in the CD-rom (D) drive. Wait about 10 seconds to see if anything comes up.

    1) If it does, go back to your desk top screen and restart. If it don't boot to the CD you need to check the BOOT ORDER in the BIOS. To find out how to check the boot order click on the Product Support button in the upper left corner of this page. The boot order should include both the D (cd-rom) drive and the C drive. The D should precede the C. Example: A,D,C or D,C,A. If you have no A drive it can be any other letter.

    2) If nothing comes up when you put the disk in the cd-rom drive click START, MY COMPUTER, double click D (or the drive with the disk). If it doesn't show anything, the disk is blank. If it does show files it has lost it's BOOT FILE. You need a new disk.

NOTE: If the disk starts when you put it in the cd-rom drive you CAN NOT use it to do a reinstall or to format. Once Windows has loaded it will not execute any commands that will do harm to it's self. You MUST boot to the cd before Windows loads.
