Why was the "TEAC DVD+RW DV-W58E Firmware" thread closed. It was one of the longest posts in this section. Good discussions were going on and no real answer was ever figured out as to why so many people are having trouble with the TEAC W58E drive. The moderator, it seems can read a thread and decide to close it, but can't even give any answers to the peoples problems and/or at least a reason why it was closed.
Hence I am an owner of Dell Teac DV-W58E and I follow the previous closed thread "TEAC DVD+RW DV-W58E Firmware" from the beginning, I join this new thread hopping that Dell customer service will finally find a solution or a new firmware to this drive..
Don't know why this thread has been closed.......unlike many others, I have not experienced the same problems with the W58E. Who knows why.
BUT, I checked out your link and I think the TEAC website has a mistake in it. The page shows the 58E, but when you click on the link to the PDF specs, the specs refer to the 58G, which is dual format.....
The previous thread had degenerated to the point where new posts being added had little to no information specifically relating to the TEAC drive in question.
Dell Moderators are not privy to the release schedules of new firmware revisions. If a new firmware is tested and validated by Dell Engineering for use on the TEAC DVD+R/RW drive shipped within Dell systems, it will be posted to the
Dell File Library as soon as possible.
Upgrading your drive's firmware with any firmware that was NOT tested and validated by Dell Engineering (and subsequently placed on the File Library) will result in the voiding of any remaining warranty on your drive.
KOP7: The answer is a firmware fix or a replacement. As Dell-Cody pointed out, he is not informed until a fix is tested and issued. They can't even give an approximant date as you cannot set a deadline for brilliance!
No manufacture is going to admit a fault or poor choice as detractors will have a feeding frenzy!
If they decide it is not 'fixable', there will not be an announcement. You will just see several posts suddenly show up telling how easy it was to get a replacement. Again, if announced, thousands of people would apply even if they don't need it, just because it is free.

It had become a chat room of miss-information with little substance.
