Return code 6

I got a return code of 6 and I called Dell support.  I was informed my hard drive was died. Great! I've have this computer since February of this year and the hard drive just dies!  Good news is Dell is sending me a new blank hard drive and the tech will come to my business to replace it.

I would like to know if the data can be recoverd of the drive?  I run my business with this computer.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

If the drive is still readable, you can attach it as a secondary once the system is back up and running, and copy your data. You will need a second SATA data cable to try this if the system uses SATA drives (most systems that new, do).

If the drive is unreadable, you still have options - a data recovery service can likely recover the data. Such a service is not inexpensive, however - a basic recovery can run $2,500+.

Unless the hard drive runs, your chances are very slim, unless you use the services of a data recovery company and this would be ultra expensive.

Time to review your backup policies.

Dell tech delivered my new drive and the computer is up and running.
I purchased an extra SATA cable and installed the old drive with the computer off
Power on Pushed F2 and reviewed the drive 0 and drive 2.  Drive 0 is the new drive and drive 2 is the old one.

I cannot figure how to get the pc to recognize the old drive.

When you push F2 and enter bios, set the drive to Auto.  If it doesn't get recognized, you have a new bookend.

The bios sees the drive.  When I go to my computer it does not appear as a local drive. Well it appeared as F drive and then the screen refreshed and the F drive went away

Then it's gone.  Put it in a ziplock bag in the freezer for a few hours, take it out, try again, if it works grab what you need FAST.
