Upgrade Options - Internal or External
I have a Dimension 3000 and want to increase the memory. I currently have 80GB and do a lot of video editing so need to increase it.
Is it as straightforward as purchasing an internal hard drive? Is there room inside the Dimension 3000 or do I need to get an external drive?
Also, the cost of Dell memory is expensive compared to other brands. Could I put another brand of memory in my Dell?

Thanks for that - it is more hard disk space I am wanting to increase. I am unsure as to whether I can just buy something that I stick in the CPU that increases the hard disk space from 80GB to 160GB- aha, I see. Okay.
You can quickly find out what, where and how by using the Dell Product Support link above. It looks like the 3000 is an IDE drive. If you want to know more about your current configuration, then again go look at Dell's Product Support above, click on Upgrades and follow the step by step guide. If you don't find that useful then download the Belarc system advisor (http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html) and run it on your system.
Then you will know what you're looking for, run a google search for HDD's, there are plenty to choose from at very reasonable prices.
and volia, away you go.........!

Looking at the support website it states that I should open the box up and put in a new hard drive and connect it up. Is it ok to put in a make other than a Dell hard drive?As ejn63 already pointed out, you can add any EIDE drive you wish, but you will need to purchase the bracket and cable for it from Dell spare parts, or from http://www.issue-resolved.com since the system supports only one hard drive as shipped from the factory. I suggest the kit from http://www.issue-resolved.com since it includes the IDE cable, screws and a nice set of instructions. If you can clean the crumbs out of a toaster, you can install a hard drive using this kit.
