No performance stats symmetrix

For some reason we don't get any performance stats for our symmetrix anymore.

When we restart the symmetrix agent and do a local rediscovery, we see our symmetrix and the performance stats are created every two minutes as set in the performance policy. So far so good.

But for some reason the collection of statistics for the symmetrix stops after a while, no more files created in the gpdate directory and ECC not updating its stats anymore.

Had a look in the EGS logs and it keeps complaining now about the performance policy already being processed by thread id x.

Has anyone seen this issue before.

    Hi John,

Is this the real-time performance or Performance Manager stats ??? Also which version of ECC is it ??

Either way, there's a few things to check.

If it's the Performance Manager (WLA) stats, 2 minutes is too frequent an interval for anything except the revolving policy and you are probably overloading the symm agent with too many / too frequent collections. Check your data collection policies and change it so that you have just the WLA Daily policy enabled at 15 min intervals and see how that goes.

Also make sure the WLA archiver is running.

If you recently moved the WLA archiver to a different system then that would cause the problem.

Ensure you still have gatekeepers available on the host running the symmetrix agent.

If it's the real-time performance numbers, then check the following:

    1. Ensure the performance statistics DCP is set <5mins (emc69843)
    2. Perhaps stop/start the symm agent
    3. There have been a few issues with this feature in some levels of ecc - if you can tell me which you're on we can help further.

    Good Luck,
    Glen.

    Hi Glen,

    we're using ECC 5.2SP5.

well both stats stop after a while, first we see the realtime stats not being updated anymore. The performance statistics DCP is set to the default 2 minutes.

The WLA stats was set at 5 minutes, changed that to 15.

Nothing has been changed to the WLA archiver and performance manager is showing stats for other devices we monitor.

Going to restart the symmetrix agent and check if this change is going to make any difference.

    No luck,

I've also changed the realtime stats to 4 minutes but after a while same problem, no more stats and error message in EGS.log about a thread that's already processing the Performance Statistics policy.

    Hi john,

If this is still an issue, it's probably easiest to log a call - i can't think of anything else that we can easily check in this forum unless if you attach the egs.log and egs error log (but please note that we will all be able to see your hostname and IP details if you do that..)

if you do want to send the log, stop the symm agent and then start it again and let it run for say 2x DCP time before copying the log file - that way we can see the initial thread start and hopefully see what's going on.

    Glen.

this issue was caused by a hung egsagent process.

Used pskill to killed the process and after a restart of the egsagent stats where working again for a couple of weeks now.
