Adding real time alarms
When I go to real time alarms I get ; No VKernel capacity alarms are active for this part of your environment at this time. In the window. However I don't see how I can configure these alarms. I know it sure would have been handy last night as one of our web servers went from 3MB or RAM to 8MB in less than an hour and locked it up. It would have been nice to catch that.
Is there a process to enable real time alarms?

Hi Kevin,
I actually did that during the initial install as per the instructions in the installation manual. Yet you see the message I get above. thanks for any other help you can provide. I'm not sure why it's not working for me. Oh, and I did double check the setting at your suggestion and confirmed the check box is checked as I thought.

Hi David,
In order to enable the real time alarms -
- In vOPS Server standard, go to the gray gear button on the far right (near Log Off and Help).
- Under General and Environment, click the edit button on the selected vCenter you are monitoring
- you will then see a check box to enable real time alarms. Click that box, and you'll be all set.

Hi Kevin,
Yes, although we have another 32 sockets that could use licensing, we really don't need them as they are not part of our group. IE I'm with the Dep. of the Interior and I only need to manage Law Enforcments segment. So the 8 sockets are plenty for what we're doing.

Can you post a screenshot of the error, as well as the vCenter showing real time alarms are enabled? Just in case I need to show it to our dev team.

Hi David,
Out of the box, the trial license is limited to 8 sockets. Are the VM's/ESX hosts you're looking to monitor licensed as part of those 8 sockets?

Hi David,
As of right now, you don't have any real time alarms in your environment.
In terms of Trend Alarms, you can set thresholds where, you get alerted based upon if there has been a percentage increase. For example, if Memory Utilization increases 70% over the last hour/day/week, you get alerted on it. Under Scope, add the VM's you want to get alerted on. These are different than the real time alarms.

Kevin, you are partially right as I found out yesterday. The vOPS team did a webex with me as it seems that when I installed vOPS exploerer and logged in for the first time, I was presented with an update. Well, the update was an upgrade to Standard. Suprise to all of us and they are looking into that. With that said, they enabled the alarms and configured everything... I just don't have anything to be alarmed about! As you can see from the next screen shot, the alarms are indeed enabled.
The trend alarms are enabled as well. Some of this functionality they say will go away when my trial license is up for Server and things will roll back to Explorer. They were kind of perplexed at the upgrade and not update themselves. Be that as it may, I have a chance to play with some automation and present some good documentation and cost analasys for my management. More than I was expecting. Thanks fo much for jumping on and trying to give me a hand with this.
I even went one step further today and integrated it with AD for our Admin group and all involved are loving it now.
