Hijackthis

I am experiencing a slow startup, long time when opening some applications, slow resolution of websites that are typed into the address location in IE and the "flashlight" appears for a long time when double clicking on "my computer". I am a computer novice and have run both Spybot and Lavasoft AdAware, rebooted and then ran Hijackthis. Here is the logfile.

I am using Norton Internet Security, have performed a recent scan, and performed a recent defragment. I am running XP SP2 and

I have a Pentium 4 Inspiron 5160 with 1Gb of RAM

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Here is the logfile:

    H20DOG,

Can you give me more information on these?

    -

    regserve.exe
(You'll have to search for this file, and post back the full filename including the path.)

    C:\Program Files\XGI\twatdog.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\Trirot.exe

    Thanks for the response!

rgserve.exe is in three locations on the computer

    C:\I386
    C:\Windows\System32
    C:\Drivers\Video\Onboard

regserve.exe, trirot.exe, and twatdog.exe are all appliciations from XGI technology. The dates on the files suggest that they were loaded on the computer before I purchased it new from Dell. I did a search on XGI Technology on the web and reviewed the packing slip from the computer when I purchased it and found that they are the manufacturer for the video graphics card on the computer (32Mb XGI XP5 Video Graphics Card for Inspiron 5160)

That is all that I know about those files.

    H20Dog,

Ok, I'm not familar with those.

    -

This is all I can see in your log:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Aida] C:\Documents and Settings\Patrick\Application Data\ttuh.exe
    O4 - Global Startup: Digital Line Detect.lnk = ?

But nothing that would cause what your describing.

Do you perform routine clean and tune ups on that system? Including temporary file removal and disk optimizations?

    Mike.

    Thanks again for the response.

I have not performed any tune-ups or disc optimizations... Do you have any recommendations?

I have run the defragmenter and have performed file cleanup. I have a 70Gb disk with about 18Gb used.

Should I delete those items that you identified using Hijack?

Also, I ran the scan on Trend Micro and I have a JAVABYTEVER.A virus noted in the following folder:

    c:\Documents and Settings\Patrick\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\Javapi\V1.0\Jar\loaderadv431.jar-b23ec41-5d226e50.zip

The scan utility would not let me delete it because it is in use. Is this a problem and if it is, is there a way to correct it?

This doesn't realy have any relevence to your problem but I have one of my own.  After re-installing the OS on my 5160, I seem to have lost all of the Dell Utilities (Access Direct etc.)  I have managed to reclaim some applications off of the Dell dowload section but Access Direct in particular (including others) are still missing.  Do you have any idea where I could get these from (I only have the Dell Inspiron Resource disk and there is not really anything of use on it.)

    Thanks
