a box with the title "OPEN WITH" pops up....amd this has a list of various things on the computer

 

Here are a couple of tutorials with visuals, perhaps they will help.  It sounds to me like windows wants to know what program you want to use to open a file.  When using HJT, always choose NOTEPAD.  If you reformatted then HJT would be gone, so here are the tutorials.  I hope they help:

Some of the information shows how to remove items using HJT.  I caution you that most of the items displayed by HJT are necessary for your computer to run and that you should remove items only with the help and guidance of people trained in the use of this tool.

Nevermind.......I think I have fixed the problem.....I wasn't placing the HTC file on its own in the "C" drive.....thansk for yoru help from before
