Hi, I have a Vostro 1014 running win 7. The speakers suddenly stopped working. I have checked to ensure the mute is not on and the volume is at max. I have deleted and reinstalled the driver and the speakers worked for about 10 seconds before stopping working. If I click on the speaker icon in the bottom right of screen and open it, the speaker is working and the green level indicator moves up and down with the incoming sound level. If I am using you tube, I also ensure the volume on the video is on?
If I use headphones, the sound works through the headphones.
UPDATE: Have tried a cd and the same thing happens - sound can be heard for approx 10 seconds then goes silent but speaker icon shows activity on the sound bar.
Ran the diagnostics and no issues were highlighted, I suspect that when the laptop is switched off and back on again sometimes the speakers work for the 10 seconds as mentioned above but if I have the issue and switch off and then straight back on using the restart computer, the speakers sometimes don't work at all. I suspect that when I ran the diagnostic's it just happened to be that the speakers were going to work for the 10 seconds on this occasion, therefore the diagnostics detected no issue. Will try the diagnostics again with the fault apparent and see if anything is picked up. Can anyone suggest the possible component that is at fault, could it be the sound card??
