Adaptec changes attributes of files to Read-only

I have Adaptec Easy CD Creator 4.02d_d5
& DirectCD 3.01d_d5

Running Dimension 8100 Windows ME

Recently after copying files to a CD-R from my hard drive then using the wizard to convert the CD to ISO 9660 so that format can be read by computers, the files I had copied are now READ-ONLY on the CD.

If I check the CD-R prior to the ISO 9660 conversion - the files on the CD are fine.

I can sware that this was not the case a few weeks ago. I have been exchanging large files with others using the CD-R media created this way and the other users had perfect access to those files. This is a recent problem

Any Suggestions?

    Ron,
Got his from Plextor`s web site

Unable to modify files on a CD-R disc or modify files copied from a CD-R Data Disc

Because CD-ROMs are by definition “Read only”, the recording process changes the data file’s attributes to "Read-Only" on the CD-R disc. Some files copied to a CD, such as spread sheets, word documents, or applications must be copied back to a hard drive and the file attributes changed from “read-only” to “archive” before the file can be modified in any way.

If the file has not been copied to a hard drive, use "Windows Explorer" to do a directory of the CD in the CD-ROM reader or the Plextor drive. In "Windows Explorer" highlight the file needing an attribute change. Right-mouse click on the highlighted file and select "Send To"...."My Documents".

Open "My Documents" (or the location of the file on the hard drive) and highlight the file.

Right-mouse click on the highlighted file, and select "Properties".

For Windows 9x systems, uncheck the "Read-only" selection and check the "Archive" selection. For Windows 2000 and XP, uncheck the “Read-only” selection, click on the “Advanced” button and check the “Archive and index attributes” selections. “Ok” the windows to change the attribute of the file. The file can now be modified.

    Cheers,
