Attempting to upgrade the bios can leave you with a dead motherboard. It should only be done as a last resort. If you have to upgrade the bios to use a new OS, maybe you should stick with what you have.

What are you planning on using Vista for? Currently, video and sound drivers are limited in their usefullness. Wireless does not always work. Many games are not compatible. Ipods do not work.
I was working on a brand new dell 1501 laptop today with Vista factory pre-installed. The dialup connection acted like molasses and timed out occasionally. The control panel and sidebar crashed randomly. The printer would not install properly. When I attempted to shut it down, it tried to install 2 updates and it was still trying to install them 20 minutes later.
I installed PCLINUXOS on my computer back in August and it worked immediately and is still working. I am talking about Linux, the OS that is supposed to be so difficult...I have never seen a recent Linux distro that was anywhere near as bad, as Microsoft's attempt at an operating system. All my equipment was found (except for my winmodem), the NVidia drivers installed correctly with Synaptic. My system and programs seldom crash (no one is perfect). This is free software and Microsoft spent 5 years and 5 billion dollars to do what??????
