Blue Screen on Cold Boot

PC: Dell Dimension 5000, P4, 512RAM, 80GB HDD.
Windows XP Home SP2

Whenever I cold boot my PC, after the Windows XP I get a blue screen. At first it was IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, so I checked MSCONFIG and disabled some startup services. Now it doesn't have that message but still blue screens with a stop error.

Like I say this is only on a cold boot and is becoming very annoying, it is a fairly new PC with a brand new install.

Can anyone help?

Try uninstalling and reinstalling the driver of your internal modem from the device manager. If this doesn't work, reseat your modem. If you are using DSL or cable you can just remove the internal modem permanently.

    Thanks,

I will give that a try. I use a DSL via the ethernet connection so I will completely remove the modem and let you know how it goes.

I unplugged the modem and reseated my memory. I think this sorted the boot error, but then i got a 0x8e stop error out of no where.

I downloaded the latest BIOS and flashed it, then had a mouse driver issue and sorted that. Hopefully everything is ok now.

I am not betting on it though, had nothing but problems so far and this is my first dell pc.

So it didn't work as predicted.

I thought as it only happens on a cold boot after the pc has been switched off for a while it might be the PSU. I changed it for a new one with a higher wattage of 400W and guess what, got a blue screen as soon as i turned it on showing IRQL_not_less_or_equal.

Does anyone have the answer to this?
