Cannot order XP resintallation CD?
I'm trying to order a new Dimension PC in the Small Business section. While customizing the PC, under Operating System, the choices are XP Home and XP Pro, but no choice for ordering a backup media CD (reinstallation CD). I saw this choice just last month. So how can I order the CD?

Yeah because everyone was calling and asking where the heck is my CD! Kinda like buying a music cd but you don't get one? I know they are trying to cut costs to take over world in PC sales.... Bad idea that has been corrected...335

Power of the pocketbook. Was probably costing Dell more money to respond to all the requests for the CD and mail it out, than it costs to put the CD in the box with every PC.

I saw a post last week from one of the Forum moderators saying that Dell changed its policy and will be providing the disk(s) with every system from here on out.

keviny01Reason why, Dell stop shipping the Windows reinstallation disk, was due to their Media Reduction Initiative, that also, included not sending a hard copy of the owner's manual for Dimension models, it's now installed on the hard drive, with a desktop icon to open the manual.Very handy if the hard drive fails.It sounds like they have revised their policy again.Bev.Please don't send me questions about your system by DCF Messenger.

But didn't they charge $10 extra for the CD? The CD is needed to do a fresh reformat/reinstall of XP. They already cut some cost by not sending the actual disc -- we had to burn the disc ourselves with our CD burner. So why did they stop selling it? Why would they lose money if they charged money for it? As of now, the order screen still doesn't give an option to order it.
