I checked my I.E. 6 and I can't find any referece to "context menu".  Could you explain what that is, or what you are referring to?

The key where the rightclick context menu additional entries are for IE is

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\MenuExt

I can get a new entry to appear by adding a subkey to that key, but I have tried and failed to make it open IE at a specified URL (e.g. http://www.google.com/).

Based on the default values of the otherkeys, which give the path name to a file, I tried to set the default value to a URL, also to "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE" URL which is the target setting to get an IE shortcut to open directly at the specified URL, but neither of these worked. The other subkeys have an additional binary value called contexts, but a) I don't know what that does and b) I don't know what value to set it to.

Thanks, but that brings up another question.  Why would anyone want to modify the registry to add a favorite to O.E.??? 

Obviously this doesn't answer the original posters question.

I don't know either, especially as a special favorite can always be put on the links toolbar for immediate access. Since the question was posed, I just thought I'd have a quick try, but I don't plan to spend much more time onit.
