cpu usage at 100%

I have xp 2 and IE 7 sp2 I beleive. For the past couple of weeks when i use IE I hear me fan go into high gear. I checked on Task manager and IE is using between 48-55% constantly. With other programs running I'm at 100% most of the time. I didn't have this problem with IE6. Is it because of the upgrade? Or is it some kind of virus/trojan/rootkit? Thanks in advance.

    Sounds like spyware or Malware.

Are you using a current and active version of a good anti-virus program?

People knock Norton but I have used it religiously ever since 1992 and I have never been bit or disappointed.

The new Norton 2009 contains a very intelligent anti-spyware application.
