Recenly I purchased a Dell 8400 primarily to create on DVD movies & slide shows. My first big project is creating the photo slide show using Media Center.
My hardware config is an 8400, 3.2GHz, 160GB HD, with two cd drives; 1st - 16xDVD-ROM, 2nd 16xDVD+/RW, and all the other 'bugles & whistles of the system.
My problem is trying to figure out the proper steps to create a DVD cd using Media Center. My procedure has been to (1) select My Music, an album, create CD, and then the music starts. I then select My Pictures, an album, create CD.
The music plays ok; photos appear on the tube. However, so far I have recorded the following:
1. One CD with only the TITLE.
2. One CD with a portion of the music.
3. One CD with only a TITLE.
4. One CD with only a TITLE.
In the "e-drive" I'm using a TDK DVD +R CD. After the playing session is over, I switch the CD to the "d-drive" to test the results.
It is becoming a 'costly trial & error' learning curve process. I've tried phoning Dell. However, I can only 'stay awake so long'; or I can barely hear of understand the technician.
Any 'step-by-step' procedure would be appreciated.
I haven't used MCE to do a slide show but if you can't get it working you may want to look at Memories on TV. It's $49.95 US. I have used this program and it works well. The only issue I had was burning the DVD. Instead of burning the DVD I have created the MPEG files and used Sonic's MyDVD V5.3 to create the actual DVD. Here's a link to Memories on TV website:

Did you get an answer for your question? Or did you find a way to solve the problem on your own? If you resolved the problem, would you share it with me? I have the same problem with Widows Media Center 2005
I have all but given up on trying to resolve my problem via MS's MCE. However, I have been using their software package "Microsoft Plus: Digital Media Edition 2". The software came with my system. However, it was not installed. DME is somewhat limited to the following (unless it's something I'm not aware of).
Limitations:
max of 99 photos for a slide presentation
only 1 music tract per photo show
creating a CD is limited to the 700MB type
Also, I have discovered that the 'burned CD' doesn't work well on a DVD player. I'm still working for a better solution.
I don't know if it will work for you or not, but it may not hurt to try it. Go to Microsoft's Media Center download center and look for this file under crital updates.
