I appreciate the response, I have the original operating system disk, and various driver disks. The computer is a Dimensions 4700. I have tried a new hard drive and reinstalling windowsXP but I get the message that the computer has failed to start several times because of the point [Ithr} and that I should contact dell. I hope you might have a suggestion.

    Thanks,

    Barry

You might want to try the suggestion that worked for another Dim. 4700 user with the same problem here:

This is the strangest thing in the world. Sorry to say, but you might need to spend some cash to get windows XP full; because it seems theres a missing file in the restore disk that is causing this to happen.

If you are under warranty contact Dell. I found this fix by Googling the error: http://www.motherboardpoint.com/t57621-boot-failed-at-checkpoint-ithr-this-solution-works-for-me.html
