You really need to tell us more--model computer and whether you are replacing a hard drive that failed and why you need to access the recovery option at all. Replacing a failed hard drive just requires physically removing the failed drive and replacing it with the new one with the operating system already installed. Not sure what you mean by hard drive "v" anyway. Did you contact Dell support to let them guide you? Maybe the new hard drive is not really factory imaged.
Dell made me do a complete reinstall of media direct and vista. Now I can no longer access the windows recovery utility by using f8 (option is not there.) Only way to get to it is using the OEM disc. Once I did this it messed up the 'D' drive partition (which was that location of the recovery system)
Moved it after 'C' drive which is the OS and left D with no empty.
(Refer to Windows RE Note for correct location of the recovery partiton.)
So becuase dell could not fix this and i want to access this vista feature without having to carry the oem dik with me dell sent me a new hard drive
New factory imaged hard drive :
Disk Managment configuartion is
47 mb Healthy EISA
10 GB NSTF this was the recovery partition D Drive
81.1 GB NTSF C; drive
2.0 GB (Media DIrect)
Installed new drive and it auto loaded , but when I checked to make sure all was working correctly I still find that I can not access the vista recovery console. This is when I get the Nobulate Failed error.
I can see within windows that the D drive has the pc tools,. Dell factory image and image x. I just can't access them from boot menu.
Computer less than 8 months old and I want it back the way it was factory shipped to me.
I have been dealing with dell for three weeks and no luck thus far.

You need to contact Dell again and let them know about the HD they sent you. Let them know that you get an error message when trying to access the F8 factory restore image. You could try booting from your Vista DVD and do a repair first.

I have contacted them and everytime I have to go through the whole problem and they can't seem to put me in contact with someone that can fix the issue. This is a new computer and I am at a loss.
Laptop was acting funny (always had it's little glitches since birth) so I did the PC restore and got this "failed to nobulate" I ordered the CD for Vista (that did not come with the laptop). The warrantee ran out last July 08 so I'm stuck waiting for the disk. Any help on this? I see it's here a lot! This laptop does come with a recover partition D: that I have no clue to use.
