After months of waiting for my Vista Upgrade, I finally got an e-mail saying that my order has shipped. GREAT thought until I tried to track my order using the DHL tracking number they provided me with. IT IS NO GOOD. I called DHL and they told me there was nothing they could do without a valid tracking number. So I called the Vista Upgrade support number only to be told on numerous occasions that my issue would be "escelated". It has now been two weeks, Dell has my money and I do not have my upgrade, and nobody can tell me where it is. I wonder if this qualifies as theft on Dell's part? Anybody else have this issue?
Add me to the list of people in the same situation. I ordered my Vista Upgrade in December and waited and waited. Then the email saying my Upgrade had shipped. I checked for days using the provided tracking number before calling DHL and being told that nothing had shipped with that tracking number. They now have my money--and yes I know it isn't much money, but that is not the point!--and I have nothing. I've emailed advocates, called the Vista Upgrade telephone number with the same results. Nothing! There is a term for taking someone's money under false pretenses. I believe the term is "fraud".
Yeah I bet you we are not the only people experiencing this problem. Amazing how they have managed to screw up every single step of what you would think is a simple process. I mean when I go to McDonalds, I order, then I give them money and they give me what I paid for!!!! Yeah it is fraud, and I realize it is only ten dollars, but it is my hard earned ten dollars. Because I am being treated like this it will be a long time before I consider purchasing anything from Dell again. Maybe we should report them to the Better Business Bureau???
I feel your pain.... Dell is really lacking in the support on the Dell Vista Upgrade. If you do get your CD's I hope that you also receive the product key....
I woudn't bother with Vista and leave well enough alone! I bought an E521 in February with Vista Home Premium installed and it is a nightmare! I would have loved to have had the option to purchase XP instead. You don't know what you are asking for. Ask for a refund instead.
I'm afraid some in this thread are missing the point. Actually, missing a couple of points. With any product there can be differences of opinion. My personal opinion is that Vista is a great operating system--I purchased an upgrade to Home Premium Vista to install on my wife's computer and it works great, with multiple improvements over XP that she really does appreciate, but I understand that others either do not like the new OS or may have had problems with it and they are entitled to their opinion. The real point here is that "good" or "bad" I have paid for a product that Dell has not delivered. Even if I should opt to never install the upgrade on my XPS 410, I paid for the product and would expect it to be delivered, just as I would expect to have possession of any other item I paid for from any business. If I pay for a can of beans at the grocery story I expect to find that can in my sack when I get home--no matter if the beans taste great or lousy I still expect to get what I paid for.
I completely agree with veac! Don't look a gift horse in the mouth! Vista is a huge resource hog, and everything opens slow! I sat here and timed the opening of several software programs that came with my new E521, and they averaged between a minute and three minutes! That doesn't sound like a long time unless you want to walk away and do other things and then come back to your PC. The best part is that most of the programs won't even open until you click on them twenty or thirty times. The prety little green circle thing goes around and around, and then nothing, and I don't find the circle thing entertaining anymore.
Now. I'm going to tell you another vista horror story. I contacted microsoft after searching for a month for contact information, and they told me that if the software came with the PC, it wasn't their problem! great support from both them and Dell.
By the way, I checked out the consumer protection website for the federal government, and did a search for "Dell". The results were 420 seperate cases against them over the last six or seven years.
But of course... you would first like to at least have the can of beans. However, if you can't eat it, and you really need some food, then you would rather go to a different grocery store that has beans ready to eat today. What makes it worse is that my grocer told me that his beans were ready to eat today, and now I have to go hungry because they're not.
