Home network set up for mixed system

I had a home network with some wireless PC,s and one main PC hardwired to a Sky Wireless/ hardwired router. I can't figure out how set up the same network now the main PC is running on vista

    Vista Computer will not display XP computer, unless you install a patch on XP systems.

    If you set up the network as a Private network and select the Network Discovery option in Network & Sharing center, you won't need the patch. Lots more help in Help in the Network & Sharing Center, View Full Map. One thing--rename your workgroup to the same name on all computers. The default name is different on Vista computers.

    I think the default name for a Windows workgroup is "Workgroup".  The key is using a private network setting and the same workgroup name.

    I still can't get the Vista PC to see the laptop or other XP machine - I have tried setting the name as - but I feel it is because have the Vista machine hardwired to the router. I tried using the Xp set up wireless  network - but of causes the vista machine is not and does not have a wireless card.
