IE not executing javascript
Over the last week or so, my Internet Explorer (version 6.0 on NT) has slowed to a crawl and it will not execute javascript commands. If I click on a link which calls javascript, the program churns over and over and eventually returns to the original page. How do I get back to "normal" operation? All other programs apear to be running as always. Thank you.
For gryjhnhpe: Sorry for the delayed feedback, but your suggestion to perform "System Restore" worked (finally). Reinstalling IE+SP1 did not, nor did SFC. I had a nasty virus which somehow made itself invisible to or overcame Norton AntiVirus. Thanks for your help!
First check Computer for any Spyware & delete it as below;
You can get FREE program called Spybot from;

If you install with Blind Icons you also get a Desktop shortcut which shows extra "Immunize" Options
"Lock IE Home Page"
"Lock Hosts file"
"Lock use of Internet Options from IE" > Tools > Internet OptionsUse Update 1st before Immunize & Scan for problems & delete files shown in Red or Green & auto ticked.
Also has other Tools , like list or Add/Remove of Auto Startup Programs & lists Hosts fileIf you have already install Spybot & "Immunize" doesn't show extra options
change the Shortcut link "Target" to
"C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\SpybotSD.exe" or use "All Programs" > "Spybot > Advanced Mode"

Update program 1st before Scan.
Delete links for "Data Miner"As both programs have a different Data base use both.

you can also try setting defaults to ur internet options
start--run--inetcpl.cpl [opens internet properties]
go to the advanced tab and reset to defaults apply and then try ur browser
I am not positive this is the problem but I had once inadvertently disabled something and messed up the browser just as u mentioned and this reset worked for me.

You could try running SFC , which checks protected System Files for corruption & if found replaces them from reinstall..XP CD .
If it prompts for XP CD , hold Shift key while inserting XP CD to stop Auto play.
Use Start > Run & type
sfc /scannow (space after sfc)

his Auto VBS script , removes installed markings & runs command line.

Just authorize Script for IE . (Installs from XP CD , if CD contains XP+Sp1 then should also have IE6+Sp1)or manually remove installed markings using Doug Knox site link to Microsoft info & download IE+SP1 from Microsoft link
(IE+SP1 contains OE as it is part of IE)
