I'm starting to hate Vista!
I bought a new XPS 410 in June (2007) and went with Vista Home Premium. Of course, I read about all the problems with it, but figued that by now they would have fixed most of that. Guess not? Now I am really starting to (extremely) dislike it.
One of the first things I did was turn off the Sidebar. It's just clutter.
And just recently I finally (permanently) turned off the UAC and Security Center Alerts. My KIS always caught everything with XP (and now Vista), so I don't really need it. UAC should "remember" if I answer "Allow" for something that I run every single day. It's just such a constant pain. Good idea, poorly executed.
Although there were "Vista Driver" available, I ending up having to buy some new hardware. Even though this hardware worked very well, there was missing functionality even with a Vista driver.
On top of all this, I read that Vista SP1, isn't really going to improve functionality, it's just going to fix a few bugs, none of which apply to anything I do on my PC.
OK, it shuts down faster than XP. That's about it.
I read that Dell is going to provide XP Pro recovery disks for Vista Business and Ultimate users. What about Home Premium users? Any thing for them?

- Hi,The only thing I like about vista is the recycle bin.I can make it as big as I want by pressing ctl key and turning the wheel on mouse.later

I figure I have it, it's paid for' and I learn a little more about it as time goes by. I am sure Xp's EOL will arrive sooner or later. So unless a new unforseen problem surfaces and sends me running to open source Linux, I will tough it out. -Bill- Interested links you provided, Biker1. Personally, I haven't come across any major problems with Windows Vista, except the fact that I have to keep updating my hardware's drivers, which is a pain to do. Otherwise, it runs perfectly fine for me.
- I'm running XP MCE on my XPS 410, which is my main system. Meanwhile I've stayed with Vista Premium on my 1520. I've spent some time researching Vista, testing applications, and testing tweak settings. Earlier this week I did a clean install of Vista with MediaDirect. The installation went far smoother than XP. There were no driver failures. I installed all my security and other applications for tweaking and office work.So far I have been very happy with the stability and speed of Vista. It's starting to grow on me. I'll probably install Vista back on my XPS 410 next year.

I have Vista and at first I had a few problems but everything is running smooth now. People complain about drivers for external hardware devices but isn't it up to the maker of that particular device to put out an updated driver for it? One of the problems some people have with Vista is they purchase a system with inadequate hardware specifications. I don't see why anyone would sell or buy a Vista system with 512MB of memory. Believe it or not they have them on the Dell site.spotteddog

I feel I need to clarify my original post form the responses I have gotten.I never have any any problems with Vista.It ran fine from day one with no problems, because I did the research and knew what to expect.Of course, I expected the hardware problems and compatibility issues with older apps. I just didn't think it would be as drastic, assuming any problems were just temporary and full drivers/patches would be on the way. They never came.Sure. I've got it. It's paid for. And I'm not going back. But it's still not an improvement over XP.Read the following link. It pretty much sums up what I was trying to say. It just says it better than I.SpottXPS 410
