Incorrect product key

Hi !  I have made reinstalation of my XP Prof. on my Dell Latitude D500 but not new instalation just update. I have OEM version Windows XP. I have used original Dell reinstalation CD and product key from back side of my laptop.  I did not change any hardware configuration.  I have received request for activation during instalation but product key is incorrect ! How it is possible ?  I can not try it via phone due to off day today and tomorrow. Thanks for advice.

You're going to have to call Dell about this. In the meantime, search this forum (the search box is below) for "product key" or "activation" and you'll see others in similar situations to yours. Maybe something you find can provide a hint.

Most times this is just a misread key. Be careful with 8 mistaken for a B, zero and letter O, number one and letter L etc.

First of all thanks for advices. I have tried to type that product key a lot of times with changes between O and 0 etc...no changes.  I expect issue with OEM license that I can not to change this copy of XP...I have lost my two days job even I have legal copy of XP.  Where is my advantage to have original and legal copy of XP ?  I have received advices from my friends to solve that illegaly but I want to solve it legaly !!!

Ok, I missed that you are trying to install a different version. Each version has its own key, and to install a different version than what originally shipped, it must be a full version and you must format the drive to install it. Dell will not provide tech support for using a version of Windows different than they shipped to you.
