IP Address Question ?

I was talking with Road Runner tech today regarding my wireless setup for my other computer, one of the steps the tech told me to do was type in "cmd" in the run box  and then type in "IPConfig" and hit enter to get my IP Address. I did that and I got a message saying

"16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem
C:\Windows\system32\command.com
C:\WINDOWS/SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT The System File is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows Application.Choose Close to terminate the application"

The Road Runner Tech told me I "Have Major malfunction" call Dell tech etc.
I talked with dell hardware tech and the and he had me First look for folder "System32 but I did not have so I did a search and found it.Copy  the" AUTOEXEC.NT" and paste it into the System32 folder. Then I tried the "cmd" in the run box and I got the same error message as above.I did a search in the Dell forums and found by going to "Start-all programs-accessories-command promt and type in Ipconfig I got my IP address.
My question is is there a problem if I cant get my IP address from typing in "cmd" in the run box? Dell hardware transferred me to dell software support  for $49.95 I could get the problem fixed. Do I have a problem? Thanks in advance

Thanks for the download. Now when I type in "cmd" the ms-dos window opens with no error but closes right away, but when I type in "command" the ms-dos window stays open, thanks for your help..
