microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 (xp) & 3.0 for Vista
have installed sage premium software, which will not work unless .NET Framework 2.0 is installed. Microsoft .NET 2.0 available for XP's & older OS's BUT NOT for Vista. Tried installing .NET 3.0 (for Vista) but it will not install - error - XP .NET framework 2.0 required. Tried to contact Microsoft but couldn't stay on the phone waiting for hours.
Am too nervous to install any software that is not specifically made for Vista since I already had to do a full application recovery 1 week after I purchased the computer and System Restore did not work.
Has anyone had this problem & solved it?
I have an Inspiron 1720, 1.67gb Core 2 duo, 2gb ram, Vista Home Premium, .NET Framework 1.1 including all updates & SP's installed.
Are you sure that the Sage Premium software that you want to install is compatible with Windows Vista?
According to the Sage website the following programs are not compatible with Vista:
Act! Premium for Workgroups 2007
Act! Premium for Real Estate 2006
Act! Premium for Web 2007
There are currently no workarounds.

Yes, Sage does work with Vista. When I called them, they said I need .NET version 2.0.
My laptop came only with version 1.1. I am currently downloading v3.5, going to take another 2 hours or so. Will install it and see how it works.

You're right. The reason for my problems was that I had some corrupt files in vista, including .NET framework, and no win32run.dll (?) which caused a major crash. After I re-installed from recovery and re-installed simply, I did a complete re-install by year (total 2 years only) and found that the program does work under XP and Vista BUT you cannot restore into Vista from XP backups. What I did was set up the companies and then copied the files & folders into vista. All of the above did the trick except for a couple of bugs in their system which they will correct for their 2009 versions.

Windows Vista ships with .NET Framework 3.0 pre-installed. Therefore you should download and install Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 from this link.
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 contains many new features building incrementally upon .NET Framework 2.0 and 3.0, and includes .NET Framework 2.0 service pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.0 service pack 1.
This should solve your problem.
Note: I have just successfully downloaded and installed Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 on my Dell laptop (see details below).
