Microsoft update icon

The Microsoft automatic update icon is always on. When I click this it shows the same update "Update for Microsoft.net framework version 1 service pack 1.1 (KB928633). It always downloads successfully but why does it download over and over?

If the update is successfully installed on your system (you can use free Belarc Advisor to check), double-click on the update icon and uncheck the box next to this update. Another box should open where you can check "Don't show this update again". That'll kill the shield in the system tray, but only for this update.

So you don't have ".net framework version 1 service pack 1.1" or "KB928633"

But you do have "net Framework 1.1"

All thats listed in add/remove is net Framework 1.1 and nothing else,no hotfixes?

Heres a screen shot of what I have.

Yes I have ".net framework version 1 service pack 1.1" but I don't have "KB928633". I downladed the Belarc adviser and after doing that the icon has stopped appearing in the system tray. Seems to have stopped it anyway.

    Sounds good.

I could not find KB928633 with the exception in relation to vista.

I use MBSA which shows what you need.

    I have version 2.0.1

Hi me again, the icon appeared again,I downloaded the MBSA and it says 1 security update is missing. When I tried to update on the Microsoft updates site it says its installed but can't find it on the computer. The update number is (KB928366) Under my update history on the microsoft website it says this has been installed about 30 times. What else can I try?

I'm running out of ideas.Try the MS link for possible solution.

I've read that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility may help in this situation.
