I'm using Firebird and am exremely pleased with browsing speed and "tabs" convenience

Hi,

I have a collection of software on CDs from Maximum mags and PC MAG:

Mozilla Firebird 0.6
Mozilla 1.4
Mozilla Firebird 0.6.1

Out of the three which do you recommend I install? Do you know what makes Firebird different then Mozilla? I have never heard of Firebird until you came along. Sounds fast.

I have been using Opera 7.11 for speed and ease of mouse gestures. Been happy using it along side of IE 6 but wanted to experiment with some others for future website building work and curiosity.

By chance, have you compared or have any feedback on

MyIE2 Final (supposedly has mouse gestures)
Phoenix 0.5

They are also on the disks.

I'm using Firebird 0.7. Quite a while back I tried Mozilla for a few days, and for some forgotten reason, I didn't like it. I do like Firebird now, though. I like the tabs, but don't use them all that frequently. Maybe I kind of forget they're there. I do like the faster loading, though; and as yet haven't found any sites where it won't work. It's my default browser. Sorry I can't comment on a comparison.

Turns out my copy of Phoenix installed Mozilla Firebird. Perhaps they went through a name change?

I installed my copies of Mozilla, MyIE2, Mozilla Firebird. The shortcuts are sitting in my Quick Tool Bar in W2k along with IE6 and Opera. I am going to compare the speed in particular for the next few days. Speed is the most important to me. Seems my copies are all outdated but they will do for comparison.

I have been using IE 6 as well because many sites I visit are not workable or not complete with Opera view. For example my bank and places I pay my bills, etc. It will be great if you say, all sites work with Firebird and are safe.

Briefly looking them over I can tell I am spoiled by all the features and familiarity with Opera. I could get over it though. lol You should check Opera out someday if you like Firebird.

One thing though, you will lose precious real estate with a top right advertising banner in Opera until you pay for the software. I wont miss the advertising banners that is for certain! ;-)

Not certain what to think of MYIE2.

As for default settings, it makes little difference to me. Most of my programs list all browsers available and let me choose from there or I simply click on the browser shortcut icon in the Quick tool bar.

Yeah, the only minus with Mozilla in these forms is you can't add smilies or change font, etc. You can only type.

You guys were right! Mozilla's Firebird is the bomb!!! I am so happy. I LOVE IT! Options and More Options. I can't believe all the useful extensions for webdevelopers. The one click HTML validation is awesome. *swoon* All the websites have been working as intended. LOL SOLD! So where do I send the check? :-D

Now as for MYIE2....stay away, stay far, far away.

I am going to download Netscape. 'bout time I see what that browser is all about. I saw a pie chart which indicated that many people use it. I was under the impression that it was a dying browser. If true, it must be a very slow death according to the piechart graph.

Now you've got me curious. I use IE6 in Fullscreen View, with autohides set so that: my History folder(s) will appear/disappear from the lefthand screen, (b)my IE toolbars (all on a single line) will appear/disappear from the top of the screen (making access to things like my History and Favorites folders a breeze), and that (c)my Taskbar pops in-and-out of the screen from the right.

All of this allows me the convenience of an unobstructed view, and the efficiency of rapid movement between previously visited websites.

Tab-browsing sounds as if it is similar to this.

Have you ever tried anything like this kind of a setup, on your Internet Explorer?
