Any idea on what specifically it is trying to install? I see this a lot with Sonic Update Manager. If you can find the program that it is stuck in a loop with, you can use the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility to remove the offending installer information and fix the problem.

I have the same problem. Every time the computer is booted (XPS400, XP home ed), Windows Installer keeps poping up. It give no indication of what it is trying to install. Sometimes it may only come up once, other times it flashes for about a minute as the sysem boots.

I'm at a complete loss.

Thanks:  I tried that and still have the problem.  removed almost everything except that wihich came with te computer.
