After reformatting the hard drive, the XP setup disk loads up the drivers, then automatically turns off the laptop when it reaches the XP setup menu. So now I have a partition without an OS. Any suggestions?

I was told that it could be just overheating, so does anyone know where I could find the specs for an Inspiron 1000? That way I can remove the keyboard and just clean out the dust first, then give it another go.
In the future, by using the Advanced Forum Search on the bottom of this page, you can quite easily find the answer to this often asked question.
Click on Notebooks, then Inspiron, then User Guides. If it's just starting up during the install, it can't be overheating...

I did do a search prior to posting. All the reinstall issues I found were not relevant since none had these specific problems during the installation process itself. Also, the User Guides are not very helpful when it comes to removal and installation of parts. For that, I need more detailed technical specs, which I have yet been able to find.
The 1000's online info is some of the worst that Dell has. You should look at the 1100's documentation and some others and see which seems to match up, I haven't removed the keyboard on a 1000 but it's either 4 screws on the top under the trim or screws on the bottom marked "K".
